Drought Surcharges Could Change Under New Braunfels Water-Code Vote

NBU’s newsroom page identifies Conservation Stage 1 as the current stage and dates the transition to July 28. The utility attributes that notice to the city’s existing ordinances; the Aug. 10 proposal would amend parts of the city code governing surcharges, stage labels and triggers.

For water customers, the amount of any proposed surcharge and the conditions that would activate it are the central unanswered details. The meeting page identifies the sections of Chapter 130 to be amended but does not reproduce the proposed dollar figures or trigger language.

What happens next

Because the item is a first reading, the agenda proves only that council members are scheduled to consider the amendment. It does not establish passage, rejection or an effective change to customer charges, and the page lists no action result.
