Comal County commissioners approved two youth-sports project agreements Thursday, but rejected every bid for a Jumbo Evans Sports Park tennis-court project after the prices exceeded available money.
The court approved project agreements with the Bulverde Youth Soccer Association and Canyon Lake Youth Football and authorized the county judge to sign. The court accepted a $20,000 donation from the Bulverde Youth Soccer Association for phase-two soccer-field lighting at Jumbo Evans Sports Park. The Bulverde soccer agreement sets a $259,000 total project amount, caps county funding at $239,000 and requires BYSA to provide $20,000. The renewal raises the monthly medical-plus-prescription rate from $592.84 to $610.50 effective Jan. 1, 2027.
The court approved action agenda item 6. The court accepted a $5,725 donation from Canyon Lake Hawks Youth Football for bleachers and shade structures at Hidden Valley Sports Park. The Hidden Valley agreement sets a $91,500 project budget and caps county funding at $85,775.
Tennis courts deferred after bids exceed funding
The court rejected all bids for the JESP tennis-court project because costs exceeded available funding; officials said they would seek to move the project to the next year. That leaves a new solicitation, revised scope or new funding decision as the next public checkpoint.
Retiree rate rises in January
The court approved the 2027 Silver Choice retiree health-care program renewal and authorized the county judge to sign. The packet selects direct billing, meaning each covered retiree is invoiced for the full cost.
Backup jail space
The court approved an interlocal agreement with Kerr County for contingent inmate housing at the Kerr County Detention Center and authorized the county judge to sign. The jail-services agreement term begins Oct. 1, 2026 and runs through Sept. 30, 2027. It sets a $100 per inmate-day detention rate, while assigning Comal County transportation, nonroutine medical and specified guard costs.
