The Texas Comptroller reported statewide August sales-tax revenue up 7.1%; Bulverde’s July collections rose 6.4% from July 2025 even as the city’s proposed fiscal 2027 budget presentation lists a $42,800 sales-tax reduction.
Bulverde residents depend on a general fund that pays for police, public works, parks, planning and municipal court, and the proposed budget expects sales tax to supply 34% of that fund’s revenue.
The statewide figure compares August 2026 with August 2025, while Bulverde’s latest report compares July 2026 with July 2025 and the budget presentation does not label the baseline for its listed reduction.
The comptroller put August collections at $4.62 billion, with most of that revenue based on July sales remitted in August. The agency reported nearly 10% growth in retail-trade receipts and more than 20% growth in online-shopping remittances from a year earlier.
Bulverde recorded $308,860 in July sales-tax revenue, $18,565 more than in July 2025. Through July, fiscal 2026 collections totaled $3,034,094—$40,804, or 1.33%, below the same point last year.
The city supplied an important qualification: after removing $134,000 in audit revenue from the prior-year comparison, fiscal 2026 collections were $93,196, or 3.17%, higher. That adjustment changes the year-to-date comparison but does not establish how the proposed reduction was calculated.
