New Braunfels' current permit snapshot shows three different review steps for NBU infrastructure: a new-build submission at Rio Drive, an accepted electrical filing in Gruene and a submitted post-approval plan change at Solms.
For utility customers, the Rio and Solms capital-plan entries describe added capacity or replacement of aging infrastructure, while the Gruene filing confirms only an electrical review step.
Rio filing aligns with a $17.2 million interceptor project
CP2026-737 was filed Aug. 26 as a commercial new-build application at 470 Rio Drive. Its declared scope is New Braunfels Utilities I-35 Interceptor Upgrade (Rio Bar Screen), and the snapshot lists the status as submitted. NBU's fiscal 2026 plan describes about 7,500 feet of new wastewater main in five diameters, replacement of interceptors carrying flow to the Rio Lift Station, a lower bar-screen vault and an odor-control unit. The five-year total is $17.18 million.
The plan says the work would replace infrastructure at the end of its service life and add transmission capacity for current and future growth. A separate NBU account of the May 27 Rio Lift Station overflow attributed that incident to the loss of both power sources and a failed alarm, not to the interceptor or bar screen. Neither record claims this construction project would have prevented that overflow, so the operational failure and capital filing should be tracked separately.
