New Braunfels City Council is scheduled to consider an expenditure of up to $1.4 million for final design of the Gruene Multimodal Improvements Project when it meets Monday, Aug. 10.
The posted agenda describes the money as a project expenditure recommended by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation to the city. It says the funding would support final design of the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization project.
A companion item asks the council to consider a contract with Pape-Dawson Engineers Inc. for the project’s final plans, specifications and estimates. The six-page agenda does not state the value of that engineering contract, so the contract amount should not be assumed to equal the full $1.4 million expenditure ceiling.
Design decisions, not a construction award
Both Gruene items are proposals awaiting council action. The agenda does not record an approval, and its description is limited to final design work rather than a construction award. It also does not provide a total construction estimate, project schedule or detailed list of improvements.
The $1.4 million resolution and the Pape-Dawson contract appear as separate individual items, meaning residents may hear the council discuss each proposal before taking action. Deputy City Manager Jordan Matney is listed with the funding item, while Transportation and Construction Services Director Garry Ford is listed with the engineering contract.
Other transportation and public-safety items
The same agenda includes a public hearing and first ordinance reading on prohibiting parking along both sides of Divine Way for about 165 feet southwest of Fayette Drive. Council is also scheduled to consider authorizing the city manager to execute a proposal with intent to purchase a pumper truck and an aerial truck.
Another consent item would authorize an application to the Texas Department of Transportation for an Airport Infrastructure Grant supporting pavement-rehabilitation construction at New Braunfels National Airport. The agenda does not specify the requested grant amount.
Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the City Hall Council Chambers, 550 Landa Street. The agenda says residents may speak when listed items are called. No vote or project authorization should be treated as final until the city records the council’s action.
