New Braunfels City Council will meet Monday to discuss its searches for a city manager and city attorney, along with real-property terms for an item identified as the Connections Lease.
The executive-session meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 10 in the City Hall council chambers at 550 Landa St. The agenda allows council members to attend remotely by video conference, but says a quorum would remain physically present at City Hall.
Two leadership searches
The first closed-session item covers the appointment and employment of a city attorney and city manager, including the search for and selection of candidates. The agenda places that discussion under the Texas Open Meetings Act provision for personnel matters.
The document does not identify candidates, disclose the stage of either search or propose a public vote. It schedules deliberation only, so it does not establish that the council has selected or appointed anyone.
Connections Lease
The council also may deliberate the purchase, exchange, lease, contract terms, due diligence or value of real property for an item the agenda calls the Connections Lease. The document provides no address, price, parties or description of the property, and those details should not be inferred from the item’s name.
That discussion is listed under the state-law provision allowing a governmental body to deliberate certain real-property matters in closed session. The agenda does not say that a purchase, exchange or lease has been completed.
After the private discussion, the council may reconvene publicly and take action related to either agenda item if necessary. The agenda leaves that step conditional, meaning it does not promise a vote Monday.
The meeting notice was posted Aug. 4. Residents looking for a decision should watch the open-session portion and any subsequent city record rather than treating the closed-session listing as an outcome.
