The proposed access and parking language was also narrowed during the presentation. The vehicle provision would have barred motorists from crossing a county ramp boundary to drive onto U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property. Pedestrians could still cross a parking area toward the shoreline, while designated vehicle spaces would be reserved for people launching or recovering watercraft—including kayaks carried on cars.

Officials framed consistency as an enforcement problem. The county’s ramps differed in design and markings, and the court discussed coordinating its rules with the Corps, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority and the Water Oriented Recreation District, which managed other Canyon Lake ramps.

Parking and access drove the debate

The public-comment record shows residents testing the proposal against individual ramps. They raised the absence of marked spaces at Ramp 8, uncertainty about a pedestrian route at Ramp 7, the difficulty of proving that a parked vehicle carried a kayak and the need for clearer, uniform signs. Other suggestions included shuttle service, permits and ramp-use fees; the workshop did not adopt those ideas.

County officials said they would keep working with law enforcement, WORD and other ramp managers on clearer, consistent rules before any later decision.
