Candidates and ballot-measure campaigns could not use signs larger than four square feet at city polling sites; they could place signs no earlier than the day before voting and would have to remove them the day after voting ends.
Tents and canopies would receive separate treatment. A canopy carrying political messaging would count as one sign, could measure up to 10 feet by 10 feet and would be limited to one per candidate or measure each day on a first-come, first-served basis. The draft also limits sign stakes to one inch in diameter or an equivalent cross-section.
The City Council’s Sept. 3 agenda schedules a public hearing and possible first reading of the ordinance at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Safety Training Room, 7286 Dietz Elkhorn Road. The council may revise or reject the proposal; the packet anticipates a second reading Sept. 17.
